Your excellent set of images from Wetzlar make me wish I'd been
there. Last year I had a wedding to shoot when LHSA was just up the
road in San Francisco. I'll make an LHSA meeting one of these days...
You get to meet some very pleasant people - and see some interesting
cameras too....
David Young looks as enthusiastic as ever - he has to be loving his
new location in Alberta. (Not that Victoria B.C. was bad...)
He hasn't changed time zones yet. He's still in BC, but on the
mainland at Logan Lake.
And Wetzlar looks like a charming place. I'm amazed at the results
from your Summarit - I've retired mine in favor of a '60s vintage
Summilux and an occasional Noctilux.
I had the Summarit overhauled and re-coated by Malcolm Taylor, which
completely changed its characteristics, or maybe put them back to
where they should be. A great lens. Mind you, the 70 year-old Elmar
is no slouch either.
It would have been fun to catch up with old friend Bill Rosauer - we
went to school together and worked part-time in the same camera
store.
How did you like the handling and feel of the M8? Did you wish for a
75mm to use on it?
It's pretty much like handling a standard M. Shutter feel is good,
but the electronic wind-on is a bit disconcerting. Didn't like the
rather slippery finish, and I'm not sure I've got my mind round the
use of the framelines. The Nocti becomes a 67/1 with the crop factor,
and as I understand it, Leitz expect you to use the 75 frameline.
This meant that I was getting a good deal more round the margins than
I bargained for.
I think I'd have also tweaked the contrast a bit more in the software
as it was such a dull day when I had my once chance to use it.
