In the following file, the first frame is the whole shot. The second frame
(scroll down) is an inset, the left image is from camera raw via Lightroom,
and the right is the fine Jpeg from the same image. They have been enlarged
200 percent, then saved for web, but there is still a clear difference in
the quality

Hi Sonny,

Interesting to be able to see the difference between the capture method. I'm
sure you've seen my posts and those of others about me shooting RAW! :-)

I have fallen victim to its siren call! I've been shooting Raw both M8 and
Canon 20D then downloading through LIGHTROOM which is so easy getting the
photos off the card into computer it's great without any fiddling. Of course
once one get's the hang of it that basically eliminates the "fiddle factor!"
;-)

And I admit there is a different look, better that is, than JPEG. I'm still
a struggling rookie with LIGHTROOM, but I'm getting there. When I finally
panic I export the image back to PhotoShop and finish the setting there.

It isn't that I didn't believe the other crew members about shooting RAW it
just seemed a lot of extra work. to some degree I still believe this. But I
put that down to lack of experience at the moment rather than LIGHTROOM
being difficult to use.

Next week I'll be shooting a real time assignment and will do it all in RAW.
However I'll have to buy another memory card for the M8 as my biggest card
at the moment is a 2 gig and shooting RAW I only get 93 "negatives?" instead
of the higher number with JPEG.

Anyway all those out there in LUG - RAW never never land I've honestly been
working at this and yes your comments of the past years are finally
beginning to sink in. :-) At least I'm making an honest effort.

Sonny thanks for the examples.

Regards,

ted
