Quoth the Raven...

Ravens are common as dirt in our area.... but skittish, and will seldom let you get close enough to use a 400mm lens... even with a converter.

Worse, when you see them, they're so black that it's seldom in light which will highlight their feathers.

And, as Mr. Murphy pointed out, if you do see them in such light, you never have a camera.

The other day, I was down at the barns, to duct-tape a horse, when I spotted several Ravens "conversing" on the paddock fence. Mr. Murphy was at work, once again, for while I had a camera and the 400 Telyt, I didn't have a monopod or shoulder stock.

I fired away, anyway ... and this is the result.
