Re: [PAW] IMG: Marbles

Tina:
I like the tongue in mouth concentration of the left-hand boy. I want to
see more of the marbles in the foreground and less of the background to
the right to better tell the story of what the boys are doing. A
vertical showing more foreground marbles, maybe?

To reduce or eliminate chromatic aberration in images, try the Nik DFine
plug-in for Photoshop. Using DFine's Chrominance Noise & Artifacts
Global Reduction set to 4 will usually get rid of most CA without
destroying detail or other colors.

I've used it with great success on images taken with the Leitz 400mm
f/6.8 Telyt, a Leica lens that *does* produce chromatic aberration.

On the other hand, Canon's EF 400mm f/4 DO IS produces almost no
detectable chromatic aberration at any aperture, due to its diffraction
grating and element design. Of course, the 400 DO IS costs about 2.5X
times the 400mm Telyt's original price.

Thanks for all of the help with the artifacts I was seeing. I can't see them on the monitor here at the farm so I'm not going to worry about them ;-)

In the meantime, I'm working on photos of kids in India. Here is one taken with the Canon 5D and its best lens - the 85/1.2. I wish I had used the M8 and the 75/1.4 because even with Canon's best lens, there are chromatic aberrations along the edges. :-( Leica lenses don't do that.

I'm leaving for California on Saturday and only taking Leicas - two M8's and one M7.

Comments and criticisms greatly appreciated.
