Go to any NORBA U.S. National Championship Series mountain bike race and
you'll see most pro photographers shooting from a low vantage point - at
least some of the time. That's why I wear knee pads to shoot those events.
Mine are made by Body Glove, bought many years ago at a race at Mammoth
Mountain, California.
I was lucky enough to switch from running to cycling a long time ago, so I
saved my knees. They still bother me a little - but not as much as they
would otherwise. Outdoor photography can be good exercise. ;)

Tina dear lady, how true, how true! :-)
In younger times I'd like to add when covering NFL or CFL football games
it was always shot from a kneeling position on the grass along the
sidelines. Today the young pups don't bend down and never capture the true
photographic power perspective of what any field sport is in it's action.
Yes on occasion they get nice photos. However?
There they all stand, seems like near a hundred or so along the sideline,
monopod in hand with a 400mm to however length using their standing
height. And loosing all the power of a lower perspective if only they bent
their knees to increase the size of the athletes and the impact of the action.
But we, actually all of us whether there are any doubters out there or
not, your time will come. ;-) It get's tough to bend the knees on real
bone or those wonderfully implanted replacement types! ;-) Tina
understands this part well. :-)
And as I've said for many years... "bend your knees for better
perspective!' I can assure you there will come a time when many of you may
curse me for my so called wisdom! ;-)
The answer to this situation is? Have an assistant strong of mind who'll
shame you to stand, never happens! ;-)
Or one who's strong of mind AND body who can grab you and put you into
standing position right smartly before you miss the next magical photo
moment! ;-)
It had occurred to me to add "stand quickly and you can have your
favourite single malt Scotch, but I thought better of it and just poured
one!" ;-)
So endth the lesson on bending knees. :-)
