I'm wondering whether anyone has experience with using a moderately priced
autofocus camera for this type of application. Oliver Bryk

Oliver,

Do you want digital or film? The "moderate" digital cameras all are ok AF but nothing like the top of the line is, and of course the lower ends start around 600, I think the D50 from Nikon is about that and is a very nice little body. If film look at a decent used EOS 1, it has very fast pro AF and those old film cameras they are almost giving away now. KEH has one in ex+ for 299 right now...that camera was like a grand or more when new and was the first of the pro FAST AF cameras. It was the top of the line Canon, I had one and loved it. VERY rugged and dependable.

As far as AF and Leica, well you are outta luck. ;)
