Re: OSKAR KARNAC (SP) REVISITED

Bob:

I find your comments about the Oscar Barnack Prize candidates to be disappointing. I admit, that I, too, did not find a lot to like in the OBP photos. On the other hand, I did not find much to like in your rather staid. but pretentious, collection of over-priced photos, either.

You complain that "Very few images seem to have the edge of dangerously personal visions.", yet your own work shows a remarkable lack of "edge", let alone any hint that there may be a "dangerously personal vision" behind it.

I have found this to be a very polite list, with works of many styles shown. Comments are offered ... mostly of the polite to enthusiastic variety. Photos which are not liked by the list, are usually met with a deathly silence... criticism enough for most of us. But it is through this process that we improve our skills.

Photography is a field where you're only as good as your last photo. So far, this year, I've had one quarter-page, colour photo in a national newspaper and a second on the front cover of another newspaper. Next month a regional, glossy magazine will publish a feature "profile" of myself, while running 8 of my images as a "double truck". And this Saturday I will judge a national Nature photo competition.

So, before you run off at the mouth, show us what you have done ... lately.
