Many thanks to all who looked and offered their thoughts as to why
the last Blue Jay shot looks "odd".
Depth of focus cannot be the issue, because the segmented ring around
the eye is sharp and clear. Motion is ruled out, for the same
reasons, though it has been pointed out that the bird may have moved
slightly, or had it's neck feathers ruffled, either by muscle or wind.
No matter, I still like the pose, and the shot.
Here is an Evening Grosbeak, which has no such issues.
