Yeah... DOF isn't exactly massive at 800mm!
I don't know the minimum focus distance for the 400 Telyt, but it
can't be much over 8 to 10 feet.... about how far the little guy was from me!
Earlier, I'd used the 400 Telyt with an extension tube, to photo the
28/2.8 PC-SA for publication in the Viewfinder (v 37, n3, p38), and
it worked very well. But that was at a focus distance of some 3
meters (16') and stopped down to f32 on a tripod.
Using this lens at f8 (virtually wide open!) @ 1/750th and on a
monopod is a different kettle of fish, entirely!
Given the circumstances and the curvature of field the Telyt is known
for, one should be considered insane for even thinking of such a
thing... except when it is simply a "target of opportunity". :-)
