Leicameter repair

Alex, If you wanted someone in the UK you could try Malcolm Taylor, he is
reputedly the best Leica repairer in the UK if not further afield, although
not cheap.
He did a very good job on my III recently, and although I didn't mention
meters while I was there, there were several reflexes with meters in for
repair.
I use the Wein cell (from Jessops) in my MR, which works OK without
conversion.
Malcolm Taylor is 01568 770542 (UK), I'm sure there is an email address, but
it isn't in his latest advert in the AP.

Gerry - thanks for the info. I'm already a big MT fan.

So far he's done the following work for me:

- Restored an early beater M2 with rust on the top plate to as-new functioning.
- Overhauled my pristine 85/1.5 Summarex which wasn't coupling with anything.
- Overhauled and re-coated my 50/1.5 Summarit which used to flare like crazy and is now virtually flare-free.
- Restored my 60th birthday present from my wife, a 1926/27 I factory-converted to a black-paint III. New r/f mirror, new Leica curtains and the rest.
- Overhauled and re-coated a nice early LTM 35/3.5 Summaron which again was way adrift on coupling.

I've visited MT a couple of times on his farm to bring and pick up items I wasn't prepared to trust to the post. It really is an Aladdin's cave down there, as you will have seen yourself. I agree he's not cheap and he's not normally fast, but he's one of a kind in the UK.

BTW you can see the stories about the Summarex and my oldest Leica at:

For the Leicameters I've decided the send them to George Milton in Hollywood who has a great reputation and faster turnround times than Malcolm. I think he's a good deal cheaper too.

Best

Alex
