Several things which may interest you... or not.
[1] In February, SOCRATES Privatstiftung, of Vienna, Austria acquired
50.4% of the voting shares of Leica Camera. Hermes (Fr.) is no
longer in control of the firm.
[2] For the fiscal year ending March 31, last, sales were 106.7
Million Euros, up 15.9%.
[3] International sales were 80.9% of the total sales, with the US
their biggest market for the first time - with 24.6% of Leica's Sales.
[4] Sales of "system cameras" (M & R) were 34.5 Million Euros - up
12.2% (mostly on the strength of DM-R sales).
[5] Sales of Compact cameras were 16.9 Million Euros - up 6.6%.
[6] Sports optics (Binoculars & Spotting Scopes) were 36.4 million
Euros - up 20.5%.
[7] Sales of slide projectors continued to tank - now 1.8 million
Euros - down 19%.
[8] Earnings (before adjustments and taxes) were 0.6 Million Euros,
improved from a loss of 10.6 Million Euros the year before.
[9] Overall, Leica Camera lost 9.2 million Euros, compared with a
loss of 18.1 Euros the year before.
Over-all, it looks as if things are improving. As Martha would
say... "This is a good thing!"
