Leica Financial news...



Several things which may interest you... or not.


[1] In February, SOCRATES Privatstiftung, of Vienna, Austria acquired 50.4% of the voting shares of Leica Camera. Hermes (Fr.) is no longer in control of the firm.


[2] For the fiscal year ending March 31, last, sales were 106.7 Million Euros, up 15.9%.

[3] International sales were 80.9% of the total sales, with the US their biggest market for the first time - with 24.6% of Leica's Sales.

[4] Sales of "system cameras" (M & R) were 34.5 Million Euros - up 12.2% (mostly on the strength of DM-R sales).

[5] Sales of Compact cameras were 16.9 Million Euros - up 6.6%.

[6] Sports optics (Binoculars & Spotting Scopes) were 36.4 million Euros - up 20.5%.

[7] Sales of slide projectors continued to tank - now 1.8 million Euros - down 19%.

[8] Earnings (before adjustments and taxes) were 0.6 Million Euros, improved from a loss of 10.6 Million Euros the year before.

[9] Overall, Leica Camera lost 9.2 million Euros, compared with a loss of 18.1 Euros the year before.


Over-all, it looks as if things are improving. As Martha would say... "This is a good thing!"
