It finally happened!

I've shot with Leicas since the early 1980's. (Before that, I was a Nikon man... how I ended up switching is a long story, not to be told here.)

Over the years, my Leica's have drawn little attention, other than the occasional "nice camera", because it looks impressive in size, compared to the average point & shoot.

Rarely, someone will ask, with the conversation going something like:

"Nice Camera"

"Thank you."

"I've got a Pentax,"

"Nice Camera"

"Is that 'thing' you have as good as a Pentax?"

'nuff said!

So you can imagine my surprise when, yesterday, I was out at the annual BC ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) Poker Run, shooting some snaps when a chap came up and asked ...

"Wow! Is that a Leica Digital?"

He turned out to be a 20 year veteran in the portrait photography biz, and although he'd never even held a Leica, he knew all about 'em. I let him play with it for a while, and he was like a kid in a candy store! Rather fun, actually!

Who knows, in another 25 years, I may meet another, outside the clan, who knows of Leicas! :-)

Oh, yeah... a couple of shots of the Run, can be found at: http://www.telyt.50megs.com/BCATV_06.htm

For the 'city folk' among us... a "Poker Run",is not a race. The riders have a variety of trails to choose from... varying in both distance and skill required. Before you depart, you pick up two playing cards. At each checkpoint, you pickup another. You get your last card(s) when you return and check in. ("Sweepers" are the last over each route to make sure nobody gets lost!) At the end of the day, prizes are awarded, based on the best "poker hand". Yesterday, one chap drove away in a new, $10,000 Yamaha "Quad", because he held 4 Aces, Queen high!

Thanks for looking... comments (good or bad) appreciated, as always.

Cheers!
