Herr Herr showed:
A House Wren (Troglodytes aedon) bringing a snack home for the kids:

A few Sandhill Cranes (Grus canadensis) breed in the Sierra Valley north of
Lake Tahoe:

Ordinarily the Sandhill Cranes' plumage is gray. The rust-colored stain is
from iron oxides in the soil. When the birds preen their feathers the iron
in the mud on their bills stains the plumage.
Also in the Sierra Valley, a Yellow-headed Blackbird (Xanthocephalus
xanthocephalus) claims turf:

Hi Doug!
All good, of course. But the Yellow Headed Blackbird is just great!
How did you get him to let you that close? A blind?
I've been trying (sans blind) for 5 years, and can never get a truly
good shot, close enough!
Well done!
Cheers!
