Re: IMG: Portrait of a shameless moocher

Peter:
Golden-mantled ground squirrels like the guys in your pictures will take whatever they can get. Yosemite's Mono Pass is a good place to find them:

Walk up to Yosemite's Vernal Falls and sit to eat a snack, and you'll have more rodent company... ;-)

When I shoot wildlife, I try for eye-level shots to bring the viewer into the animal's world:

We were sitting on a mountain rock slide at 8200 feet (2500 m). Look who decided to join us for lunch. I had a 28/3.5 on the M8, but fortunately it crops down well.

A couple of minutes later, I had the 90/3.5 VC on the camera, and managed to fill the frame with one of his cohorts. http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/pklein/joseph08/edits/L1003789GndSquirCrop-w.jpg.html

These little guys are FAST, but their desire to "have what you're having" gives the photographer a fighting chance.
