The landscape of the Hoge Veluwe National Park alternates between dry sandy soils, woods, heathland, shifting sands and old agricultural settlements. The world-famous Kröller-Müller Museum is situated in the park and boasts an art collection that includes paintings by Van Gogh, Seurat and Picasso and sculptures by Rodin, Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. It also contains an underground museum, the Museonder, next to the Visitor Centre, where visitors can study underground flora and fauna. You can explore the park on one of the 1700 white bikes which are available free of charge.

Bart, Nathan:

At 5000 ha (roughly 19 sq. miles) it is indeed a good sized park, and for a small country like the Netherlands, it is HUGE!

Of course, Canada is somewhat larger than the Netherlands. Rose used to work in the Yukon, where her boss owned a private, hunting reserve... nothing to large ... about 8,000 sq. miles, or 2,071,990 Ha. Wood Buffalo Park, in Alberta - our largest park - is a modest 44,000 sq. Kilometers (~17,000 sq. miles) or 4,400,000 ha. Or, to put it another way, Wood Buffalo is about 3,500 kq. kilometers larger than the Netherlands! ;-)

Of course, neither of these have any art, nor even a decent museum!

Cheers!
