Hi Steve,
Yes; RAW converted.
Two reasons:
1. (and I may be wrong on this one) I have more to work with for BW prints 
converting RAW than JPEG
2. Sometimes I do like color, so it's nice to have the option
Any opinion on the validity of #1?

so you shot RAW then converted?  Did you compare RAW vs straight bw  
jpeg shots?
