Mark, I hand hold the 280 2.8 with a 1.4 extender making it 400 f4.00 without any problem. And when necessary I add the 2X extender to that combination making it an 800mm f 8.00 without any problems. ;-) And it's a piece of cake. :-)

However, there's also a limit to one's common sense of what they can and can't hand hold in relation to what one is trrying to capture on film. :-)
