 Nice poirtrait.

Did you seriously worry that a mechanical camera would freeze up? I assume you worried about the batteries for the exposure system? When I had one of those (Canon all auto EOS) cold weather simply crapped out the exposures they were all off by some factor or other & I carried more lithium in my pockets than your average manic depressive!

Hi Mike!

Nope - batteries were fine... but at -32 the follow-focus rails of the 400/f6.8 froze! The grease turned to glue! It was OK by -27, when it worked a bit stiffly, but smoothly. The displays on the R8 took a second or two to come on and a further few seconds before they were fully readable. The winder took more than a full second to wind the film, but the shutter fired fine and the auto exposure was perfect.

I should point out that this was done, taking the camera straight from the car, where it had resided, overnight. Very cold!

I know, it's not the best way to use your equipment, but I hadn't planned on taking photos until the next stop, when suddenly opportunity raised it's ugly head! Overall, I was very pleased with the way it functioned!

Merry Christmas!
