Re: Friday trees

Mike:
I prefer the ultra-sharp look of Leica's ASPH and Canon's L-series lenses. It looks to me as if the Telyt is only sharp in the center, and then not as sharp as the EF 400mm f/4 DO IS.

I realize there's 30 years between the two lenses. And I tend to use the Telyt wide-open, since stopping it down darkens things. I tried some images at f/9.5, but probably needed f/16 for sharpness. It's challenging to focus at f/6.8, then stop down to the smaller aperture and shoot without accidentally changing the view I'm shooting, or the focus. I used a monopod to steady the lens.

Maybe my technique is flawed, or the 400mm Telyt shows its age (or
I do!). These shots aren't quite as sharp as those with the Canon
lens, but the colors are nice:

Maybe its point of focus which seems to be the second layer of leaves
at the bottom of the pic.... I suspect stopped down might help-- as
it is you get the nice 'Leica' background glow sort of what many of
us like in "environmental portraits , not fuzzy but not sharp either
so it delineates the [person;s face without entirely blurring the
person;s work space in the background
