When my LS4000 went to Nikon for repair (and stayed there for several
months), I bought a cheap SCSI card for $29 and used my LS2000. The LS2000
seems to render colors more neutrally (with a touch of warmth) than the
LS4000. It's gotten a bit moot now since most of my shooting is with EOS
digital SLRs. My Leica Ms just look at me...

I have the LS 2000. While it is correct that the scanner is SCSI, there is
an easy solution to that--an Adaptec SCSI-USB adapter which allows you to
plug the scanner into the USB port. This is the solution I have been using
for the past 3 years, ever since I retired the computer in which I had a
SCSI card (I was too lazy to transplant the card from the old computer to
the new one).
But as Shel pointed out, the LS 2000 is 35mm only. The Nikon LS-8000 or
the Minolta (forgot the model name) are needed if you want to scan MF
film. Another option for Joseph is to get something like the LS 2000 for
35mm for MF and a good flatbed scanner like the Epson 3200 for MF. The
total cost would still be less than the cost of a film scanner that takes
MF film, and if the only purpose of scanning MF is for the web, the
flatbed will be fully adequate.
