One reason we have less wildlife is that, before the rise of the commercial
feed animal and meat industries, Americans hunted a lot of their food (and
that's if they weren't killing it for sport or in the name of manifest
destiny). If methane from the bison (buffalo) herds that used to cover the
country didn't warm things up too much, I doubt the cows will do it either.
Until we all decide to give up beef, we'll have large cattle herds
(unfortunately). If we do give up steaks, we'll have gas from whatever
animal replaces cows.
It comes down to a choice. I'd rather reduce vehicle emissions to cut down
on greenhouse gases and related global warming, and keep the natural gas
sources. Just roll up the window and hold your nose... :)

You jest, but there are environmentalists who are concerned that the

they emit a lot of methane when they belch, and possibly other "greenhouse
gases". Even if that is the case, I'll never turn in my ribeye steak for
tofu.

Wait, that's California.... why isn't someone out there capturing the
methane to use for compressed fuel???
Oh, I forgot... Cal highway standards are targeted at zero emissions. Can
you have a zero emission cow?
