I hope you don't mind me being 100% honest. The second photograph
(horse, rider, dog, etc.) is wonderful. But the first photograph,
of the woman, misses the mark. The burned-out pony tail is where
your eyes automatically go. It is impossible to look at her face
for more than a second, then the bright white light sucks your eyes
right back to the burned out pony tail. And the fact that her face
is on the left, your eyes move to the right toward the bright white
light, then move right off of the photograph. It takes an effort to
move your eyes back to her face, then the process starts all over
again. We read left to right. Our brain wants to move our eyes left
to right.
Had she been looking the other way, it would be more difficult for
your eyes to move from her face to the white pony tail - but they
would - and then it is easier for your eyes to move back to her
face. In this orientation, your eyes do not automatically scan
right off of the page (photograph). But even this way, the burned
out white will suck your eyes away from her face. The burned-out
pony tail is neither the subject nor should it be the center of
one's attention. But unfortunately, it is.
not anymore...
I couldn't convincingly deal with it in PS, and learning to read
right to left was out of the
question,
so...voila....
the revised image...

as I believe Jim was correct, about the area being too bright...
thanks, Steve
