Re: Am I seeing straight

Jim Brick my long-time friend asked:
Subject: Am I seeing straight
I just had cataract removal surgery (lens replacement) so my vision is now back to what it was forty years ago - 20:15.

So, with my new eyes, I thought I just read a post, by Ted, extolling the virtues of a 'digital' camera. An M'something or other... I think I need to make an appointment with my eye doc to see if he replaced my old lenses with holographic lenses. Lenses that make you see things that really aren't there.

> Ted, have you pinched yourself lately? Are you really there?<<<

Howdy Jim,
Yep yer eyes are just fine old buddy.:-) Actually they wont believe what they see when you have one of these M cameras, M8 to be exact, in your hands and see how beautiful it works and feels like any M of the past. :-) Actually better!

It's way beyond the those great big DSLR clunker machines that scare the wits out of security people and foe a like. Or the little old lady whom you find sitting quiet in a beautiful pose of contemplation illustrating an award winning photograph.

The camera is up, click and it's down and you have captured this wonderful real life portrait and she has no idea you've shot her.... errr... I mean photographed her. ;-)

Yep I'm enamoured with the 20D and Leica R glass, but in this case in my hands is the M Leica of my photographic professional life of the past 50 years usually using 3 of them at a time! .... better still, it has the Leica glass to boot! :-)

I expect there'll be whiners! ;-) After all a manufacturer can make a product to satisfy most of the customers, but they'll rarely make a product to satisfy all the customers! After all, look at all the whining, bitching, stupid nickel and dime nonsense when the R8 came out. A beautiful fast working camera and yes up till couple of years ago I worked 3 of them motor driven because I only se with one eye!

If I have a tiny observation, the outer covering leather? and chromed finish are a bit "too silky smooth" necessitating a slightly harder grip on the camera. But after a very short time it begins to pass. However, I wouldn't be surprised that at sometime this might be change, if not? It's no big deal.

I believe the techie geeks will be super frustrated because they wont have all the tiny do dad buttons and numbers to play with. However the bulk of us ordinary KISS people will love it and just concentrate on shooting as we did in the days of film.

I'm sure Jim you will be as pleased and excited about the M8 as I am. The big surprise is? .... Tom Abrahamsson's enthusiasm for it whom most never thought he'd get warm about it.:-)

Get well and save those eyes for the fun of your life in digital M8 picture taking time.:-) :-) :-) It's an M M M M M M camera... you'll love it! :-)
kindest regards,
ted
