Action at the Baylands this morning...

Palo Alto is a hopping place right now, especially if you're a bird.

Some fuzzy young guys crashed this morning's "Pacers and Grabbers" field photography seminar:

They ditched parental protection and struck out on their own, almost right under your nose:

But they usually traveled in pairs for safety. Sometimes the whole family trooped off together. But eventually, young birds went back to Dad: http://tinyurl.com/mxo66

If you see an adult avocet or black-necked stilt with too many legs, chicks are sheltering underneath the feathers...

Next stop was the boat-launching ramp. You expect chummy barn swallows:

But a dancing snowy egret was a bonus:

Meanwhile, at the rookery, another snowy egret showed off scarlet breeding lores and peach feet:
