A story about my past few weeks, and Ted & Sandy

As many of you know, I work with a handful of people at a self-funded start-up. That is, we all hocked our selves to the max to keep from having to go to the VC's (Vulture Capitalists!) Three weeks ago we signed a contract with a large customer so it looks like we are on the road to some sort of success, somewhere down the line. At least our investments are somewhat safe for the moment. This kind of environment, of course, is very demanding and leaves me little time for my passion, photography and photo e-lists.

A few weeks ago I received Ted & Sandy's new book, "Women in Medicine." A magnificent book for sure. What a team, Ted and Sandy. Unbeatable!!!

Anyway, about that time I had a pain in my groin one Sunday while working in my darkroom (a rare occurrence) and it appeared the following Sunday as well. After some self examination, I discovered that I had a hernia. Left side, a duplicate of what I had on my right side sixteen years ago.

To make a long story short, dealing with a large hernia and waiting for surgery was not pleasant. I had surgery a week ago Monday, June 21. By Carla Cassani, a woman surgeon. She was, without a doubt, one of the best doctors that I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. The surgery went flawlessly and recovery has been 1000% faster and better than the same surgery (other side) sixteen years ago by a different Dr., retired now.

Yesterday I went in for a check-up and chatted for a few minutes about her technique and asked why recovery is so swift even though I'm much older. She gave me the run-down on her methods and why they were better. And that's an understatement!!!

What I also did was take my copy of Ted & Sandy's "Women in Medicine" and handed it to her, and said "Have you seen this?" Knowing full well that she hasn't. Her eyes opened wide, she took the book, started turning pages, and said "any possibility that I could borrow this book? I would really like to spend some time looking through it." I of course said yes and that I would get it back at my next check-up in a month.

The look on her face when I handed her the book was priceless. Ted and Sandy, you have created a much needed masterpiece. The fact that it is B&W is what helps make it so spectacular. The B&W photographs allow you to see the intensity of the events and not be influenced by splashes of color.

A great great job, Ted and Sandy.

:-)

Jim
