A few thoughts...

Much time spent responding to all the incorrect requests for
unsubscribing done through the list, and huge numbers of folk
requesting help via direct email to me. They have been handled.
Thus the list is now likely to return to its normal function.

Virtually all of those doing the most complaining about not being
able to unsubscribe have been erring in their method. Sonny and
some others have pointed out some of the mistakes possible, and
those are exactly what was happening. Suffice to say, the
procedure works. Of course it also requires that you email the
unsubscribe command from the email address from which you
were subscribed. (I thought everyone knew that)

Also, I was not aware how many were reading from the website
and posting from there on the Topica site. Little posting from there,
though, because those who used the website were NEARLY always
lurkers who never or seldom posted. Regardless, that ability does
not currently exist on this server, though, as I've said, they imply
that it's coming.

I have been amazed at the inability of people to read and follow
instructions, but since I'm very concerned about the 'dumbing
down of America', I shouldn't be surprised, I guess. I never worry
about the top 15% as the cream always comes to the top, or the
bottom 15% as they, too, will always be there. That 60% in the
middle, however, is what concerns me. They are our future! The
last 30 years, in the U.S. has seen a decided drop in the academic
instruction and expectations of that 60%, and that is regretable.

With most the impatient and vocal now unsubscribed, the list has
shrunk from about 786 when originally transferred, to about 635
now. It has been a 'weeding out' process, but may be good in the
final analysis. Give me a band of dedicated types and I'm a happy
guy. Much better to know where your folk are coming from than to
not know.

In a short time Jim will be assuming the sole ownership of this list.
This was planned long ago, but Jim got into a fit of that important
stuff called WORK, (notice it's a 4 letter word) but it appears that
he has his head ubove water now and will be reigning shortly.
Whether this list will remain here or go elsewhere will be Jim's to
decide. We/Jim will let you know what, when, where etc.
