Re: A chance encounter with the digilux 2

I had an easy time transitioning through Fuji S1 and Nikon D1H to EOS 1D and 10D dSLRs because they're all so 35mm camera-like. I can't imagine using an electronic viewfinder unless it's very, very good. And it doesn't sound like the Digilux is that good. Oh well, just have to wait for the digital M or Epson-Cosina to use my M-lenses with digital. Meantime I'm using them on M6 TTL and M7 and rediscovering film. Cool stuff!

I last went to the San Francisco Carnaval Parade in the Mission District many years ago. Do the women still wear the floss-bikinis and heavy makeup and is the music still as happy, Bill?

Yesterday I went with some Leica-mates to do street photography at the big
Carnaval parade and festival in San Francisco's Mission district. I
discovered that the stranger on my left in the crowd was shooting with a
Digilux 2. Although he was a French tourist we were able to exchange the
usual pleasantries about the other's good taste in brand of camera. Curious
to try the Digilux, I offered him a chance to make a few pics with my M3/
90mm TE. He passed the solid state wonder to me. I found it difficult to
maintain my friendly composure and nearly was unable to resist a cry of
merde! The Digilux seemed like a cheap plastic toy compared to the heft of
the M3. The electronic viewfinder was a cruel joke. A toy telescope would
run circles around that grainy little window. I can't believe the Digilux
has been widely praised by M owners. The only digital camera I have used is
the Canon 300D. IMO, a much more serious camera than that silly digi.
