Barry:
Canon's autofocusing EF 400mm f/4 DO IS has no detectable chromatic
aberration (diffractive optics work very well) and focuses down to 11 feet
*without extension tubes*. Images with it at any aperture between f/4 and
f/16 are better (sharper, higher contrast) than those with the 400mm f/6.8
Telyt-V at f/6.8 or f/8.
The Canon lens weighs the same or a little less and is eight inches shorter
than the Telyt. Of course the Canon lens also cost almost ten times as much
as the used Telyt. With my eyesight the Canon lens' autofocus helps a lot.
I use the 400mm f/6.8 as a backup on those extremely rare occasions when
the EF 400mm f/4 is in the shop. Photo tour leader Doug Cheeseman told a
story about having a client fall on his EF 400mm f/4 at the start of an
Antarctic cruise and not being able to use it for the entire 2-3 weeks so I
always make sure I have the Telyt backup when I'm far away from the repair
shop!

Thanx Mark and I was refering to you as you've mentioned it before, sorry I
didn't use your full name. I probably poorly phrased the question. What I
meant is how does the image quality in your view, of the 10D with your Leica
Lens, compare to the quality of the !0D with the Canon lens. Do you notice
any difference?
Thanx
Barry

Don't know if you meant me. I occasionally use the 400mm f/6.8 Telyt-V on
an EOS 10D. I get much better images from the 10D compared to a Visoflex
III on a motorized M7. The cable-released Visoflex's 'shutter-lag' makes it
unusable for fast subjects.
