Enjoyed the shots and the amusing explanation. We took a cruiser through the many (and fairly automated) locks on the Shannon-Erne canal a few years ago. My wife (crew and galley-slave) was operating the locks faultlessly - mainly because the computer system won't allow boo-boos - but then decided she wanted to stay with the boat for a change. This was an unusually deep lock, and the look on my wife's face as the boat sank into a hole about 20 feet deep was indeed a picture. However, she motored it out like a trouper.
