*WTB:Who's the Boss?*

Sitting in an air conditioned ivory tower, smoking Havana cigars,
supervising the faceless toiling multitude, just like an inanimate
piece of company machinery. Does that point a stark enough stereotype
of the average highly successful manager? Think again. We see managers
in every sphere of life, in a lot less exemplified examples – the
mother-multitasking day in and day out, the student-juggling sports,
pocket money, academics. We, at WTB, look for people who do not
conform to the stereotype. 9 cases out of 10, standing your ground,
tact, diligence and thinking out of the box these are a few things
that make a successful manager. If you believe you have what it takes
to keep up with these standards, welcome to WTB, an event that will
sorely test your every managerial skill.
Also the event being one of the most popular events at Axis , is also
the most challenging . An indicator of your managerial aptitude WTB
will tell if you will stand proud among your peers and let them know
who really the boss is. http://www.axisvnit.com/wtb/
*ROBOTICS*

U BOOT
Prepare an underwater robot (wired or wireless) which can steer its
way through under water hurdles and lay the given piece of pipe at the
specified location (Like repairing a broken oil pipe line)

The piece of pipe will be provided to each participant at the start of
the arena and the location where it is to be placed would be at the
end of arena.

The pipe would be a PVC pipe of diameter 50mm and length 100mm .

COORDINATES
Build an autonomous robot which traverses over 6X6 grid and arranges
the six blocks in such a way that no two blocks should be in a same
row or a same column or along any diagonal (they should not be on a
same line either horizontally or vertically or obliquely*).

All the blocks would be initially placed on the same row, which would
be different for each team and would be decided during the event by
the organisers.

III
Build a working model which performs a useful task which has its
application either in industry or domestic life or environmental
safety or defense. Or any other significant field.

*WALLSTREET*
About a year ago, when The Bull was on a rampage and was toying with
the vertical reach of The Bear, all was hunky dory with the brokers
and investors. Then, to the misfortune of The Bull, The Recession came
calling and caused many a heartburn. To cut a long story short,
millionaires were born, billionaires went broke and things were as
topsy-turvy as a soap opera. It is this very erratic characteristic of
the stock market which tests the mettle of those who claim to have
nerves of steel.
Now, imagine all of this action packed into a mere 20 hours. What you
get is an experience like none other, with the Chris Gardners and
Warren Buffets of tomorrow establishing their dominance over lesser
mortals and reigning supreme over the battlefield that is the share
market.

We, at AXIS ’10 present to you Wallstreet- the mock stock exchange, an
event which pushes the participant’s business acumen and monetary
instincts to the limit.http://www.axisvnit.com/wallstreet/*TECHNODOX*

There shall be 4 categories for the papers received. They are :

    * Electrical, Electronics and Computer Science
    * Civil and Mechanical
    * Metallurgy, Mining and Chemical
    * Social and Environmental aspects of technology (new)

The first 3 categories consist of review (open topics) and research
topics. 4th one has all open topics. In review category participants
can write on any topic they choose related to a particular cluster. If
anybody has done some previous research in any field, the participant
can submit it via research category. The new cluster has been added
keeping in mind the concept of Green Axis. Papers will be of relevant
topics like the environmental and social aspects of biodiesel fuels or
setting up an industry.http://www.axisvnit.com/technodox/

*CYPHER*

Cryptocrux

'Crypto' relates to encryption or jumbling up characters to make them
look like gibberish (in a layman's language) called ciphertext. Each
crypt is unique in its own way. The art of hiding information in the
form of codes was known to our ancestors long before Da Vinci. When
Julius Caesar sent messages to his generals, he didn't trust his
messengers. So he replaced every A in his messages with a D, every B
with an E, and so on through the alphabet. Only someone who knew the
“shift by 3” rule could decipher his messages.
The term is derived from the Greek language krytos (secret) graphos
(writing). Classical cryptanalysis involves an interesting combination
of analytical reasoning, application of mathematical tools, pattern
finding, patience, determination, and luck. Cryptanalysts are also
called attackers. Cryptology embraces both cryptography and
cryptanalysis.
So basically, CryptoCrux is a face off between man and machine. How
good or strong is your crypt? And how quick are you at breaking it?
CryptoCrux in AXIS '10 is where you will get to know.

Insomnia

The dictionary defines insomnia as "inability to sleep" due to several
psychological or mental disorders. Insomnia is a symptom, not a
stand-alone diagnosis or a disease. It is typically followed by
functional impairment while awake. We, at AXIS define it as "the
coding fever". Do you write codes even in your dreams? Then check this
out.

Insomnia is an all night event, a fiesta for those who are never tired
of coding and codes are food for thought. This is an event for all
those people who would sit up all night and code rather than sleep,
who think sleeping is crime and a waste of time, for whom the world
would be a better place to live in if sleep did not exist and time
would be utilised to the fullest. If you are thinking "Ah! finally
something worthwhile", Get set to rack your brains! The rules shall be
displayed on later but if you are grinning as you read this then get
going.

D-s-i-g-n

D-s-i-g-n is the application designing event in Cypher. The problem
statement is lucid, encompassed in the name of the event itself, the
quantifiable variables being pragmatism, efficiency, and a general
lack of faults in your program design. Your objective, therefore, can
be summed up in this axiom by C.A.R. Hoare, the creative force behind
Quicksort, one the most widely used sorting processes in the world,

“There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to
make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the
other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious
deficiencies. The first method is far more difficult.”

Because, after all, simplicity is the very soul of
efficiency.http://www.axisvnit.com/cypher/

*ONLINE WALLSTREET*

Online wallstreet is a mock stock exchange being hosted on the AXIS'10
site (www.axisvnit.com) . Be a part of the larger than life experience
and test your business acumen.

Weekly Prizes will be awarded for the biggest winner and loser. Total

*CONTINUUM*

DRIFT

In this event the participants have to make a chemically propelled
vehicle which has to follow a curvilinear path. The participants are
not allowed to control the vehicle once it is kept on the track. There
will be two rounds; one for qualification and other will be the podium
decider. The first path will be semi-circular and will be divided into
equal number of quadrants. The vehicle should follow the path and will
be given points depending on the quadrant on which it stops. The
participants have 3 turns and the best of the 3 will be taken. The top
12 vehicles will qualify for the second round.

The second round will consist of a path that is ‘S’ shaped. The
challenge here will be for the vehicle to be designed in such a way
that it turns in both directions. Here again the path will be divided
into quadrants. The participants will be given 3 turns and again the
best of the 3 will be taken. In case of a tie in any of the rounds the
cumulative score of all three turns will be taken into consideration.

IDP

DP stands for Industry Defined Problem. IDP is, in real terms, applied
engineering. As the name suggests, IDP aims to bridge the gap between
theory and practical application by challenging engineers to come up
with innovative and creative solutions to crucial real life industrial
problems. The problem could be anything from a key step in the
manufacture of a chemical compound or finding a use for left-over
industrial waste. The participants would be given sufficient time to
come up with a practical solution for the same. Thus the industry
which gives us the problem statement gets a solution and in turn it
sponsors the prize money for the event.

There will be two rounds in this event. The participant has to first
give a presentation on his solution to the IDP. A participant will be
given 10 minutes for his/her presentation. The next round will be an
On-The-Spot problem solving round wherein a problem will be given on
the spot to the participants and they have to come up with a solution
within a stipulated time.

DESIGN

Lamborghini recently came up with its latest model, Murcielago LP
670-4 SuperVeloce. the car reaches 100kmph in just 3.2 seconds. Ever
wondered what makes the engine of this car so efficient?
Simple, it is the design. It is the design of the equipment that helps
us incorporate all the physical laws we know into a real life object.
Every part of a machine has its own use and they also contribute in
their own way to the machine's efficiency. From a small groove to a
state of the art electronic device, everything has its part to play.

But, all said and done, nothing is perfect. Every design has its
drawbacks and every drawback is either money lost or life at risk. It
is our job as engineers to overcome these drawbacks. We here at
Continuum, AXIS'10, present design problems and challenges that have
real bearings on the industry. So participate and be a part of this
revolution.
This event will require the participants to design a machine, which
reduces human effort and takes innovation to a new dimension,
according to a problem statement. Basically, the participant has to
build or improve a design for a simple chemical process which is used
in almost every industry so that it reduces energy losses and extra
usage of resources. The judging of the models will be done on some
palpable basis or parameter of the process involved. The decisions of
the judges will be final and unquestionable. The model should be made
in such a way that its entire working should be visible for the
judges, i.e., the model should be openable for the judges to see what
is going on inside it.

*ELECTROMOSS*

Eclectic

Problem Statement:-

Participants have to design an ECLECTIC (Electric Car) to take power
supply through metal strips fixed on arena to complete the given
track. Task is to pick up the thin metal plate from pickup box and
drop it in SCRAPYARD. Also to push the ‘parallelepiped’ in the gap
(shown in diagram) and to drive over it.

For arena details please register at the AXIS '10 website.

Designo-de-Circuitos

The Circuit Designing Event

Imagine a world without electricity.....Black...Empty…
We often fail to realise how much our lives depend on channelising the
flow of electrons. From a simple table fan to a complex microchip
everything is but a combination of several circuits, big or small.A
small number of the very basic circuit elements can make big things
happen.
The process of circuit design can cover systems ranging from complex
electronic systems all the way down to the individual transistors
within an integrated circuit. For simple circuits the design process
can often be done by one person without needing a planned or
structured design process, but for more complex designs, teams of
designers following a systematic approach with intelligently guided
computer simulation are becoming increasingly common...It only depends
on how smart a designer is.
As the design process progresses the designer(s) will frequently
return to the specification and alter it to take account of the
progress of the design. This can involve tightening specifications
that the customer has supplied, and adding tests that the circuit must
pass in order to be accepted. These additional specifications will
often be used in the verification of a design.....Hmm...Quite
technical.
This event is all about making the most effective or the best circuit
for a given problem statement. If you are up to it, register now.

*CONTRAPTION*

AIM: To basket a ball, using maximum energy conversions such that it
undergoes projectile motion before entering the basket.

APPARATUS: Depends on the size of your pockets and primarily on the
grey matter in your brains. Can vary from ping-pong balls and
ice-cream sticks to light dependent resistors and glycerine.

PROCEDURE: Is indicative of how crazy you are. Points earned and hence
complexity of the contraption, are directly proportional to the
wackiness of your mind....and of course it goes without saying that it
needs a 'sane' amount of engineering. The aim is to basket a ball so
that it goes through a projectile motion before going into the basket
with maximum number of energy changes preceding it.
