[klaatu-news] Klaatu web site and mailing list

Hi everyone,

At this time, the hosting agreement for the klaatu.org domain is about
to expire.

Last February I paid for a year with CI Host, and a week or so later
they sold my hosting agreement to X7 Hosting.  That company has referred
to me as being on a "free trial" since that time (even though it cost me
$240.00!) and the move caused things like the majordomo mailing list to
no longer work since the new company doesn't offer that service as part
of their hosting package.  Because of that, we ended up with a new
version of the mailing lists on freelists.org, which has in turn led to
posts being searchable on google and yahoo, etc.

I've not been happy with X7 hosting as many things don't work right and
they take the approach that I'm on a "free trial period" and don't seem
to want to give me any support.

SO!  As a result of this, I'm considering moving the page this month to
a new hosting company.  I've already signed up and am in the process of
setting things up on the new server.  However, to truly try things out,
I need to point my DNS entries to the new hosting company to see how the
page comes up.

THIS MAY CAUSE AN OUTAGE OF THE KLAATU.ORG SITE!

The mailing list will continue to function as it does now since it's not
with my site's hosting and servers, but is with the independent site,
freelists.org.

Once I have the new hosting company up and running properly, I'll work
on setting up a mailing list on my own domain again and get things
working there and transition the mailing lists back to a klaatu.org
controlled one (with private archives). In the meantime, the mailing
list should work fine and I'll update you as things happen.

If the website becomes unavailable for a period of time over the next
couple of weeks, PLEASE bear with me.  I may switch back and forth
between the old hosting company and the new one several times before my
old agreement expires and the new one becomes the main (paid) one on
February 17th.
