I'm using the wireless driver too, and I don't have a problem. Maybe
it is your version of the wireless driver? Mine is 1.0.0b5; (ancient?
but working) on a MacOS X 10.2.6 400 MHz TiBook. Going to sleep does
take a few seconds.
Are you putting it to sleep while scanning?
