[kismac] New to the list a question

I just bought a MacBook Pro,
from what I can see I can only use the active mode
with Kismac

What is the difference between active and passive.

So far I have opened KisMac to check out my
wireless setup which I, on my MacBook Pro
am already logged into.

It looks to me like there is a few different tools
in KisMac

Any good books or sites on WireLess hacking.

I bought "Wireless hacking for dummies"
published in 2005

I have taken a little C programming and UNIX
but in these areas I am a beginner.

I am just trying to get started
