[kismac] Re: New SVN Server?!

I hosted the cvs server for KisMac back in the day on my cable connection... I could possibly do the same for SVN but it would be nothing spectacular speed wise. Also just a thought, I'd wait to hear from Mick and get his thoughts on forking etc. It might just be easier to wait until he responds and use the current server setup, maybe adding trac. Adding admins to a project is a lot less work than forking.

The trouble is that trac requires a server. At the moment, gm2.ath.cx is a bit small to handle something like svn managment or something like trac. Can someone else offer a server? I've sent in an application to SourceForge for the project, we might not end up needing it, but we can use it just to provide downloads etc if need be...

Subversion is only available to some projects in a beta test, but IME, subversion has no real differences from CVS in actual practice. Some time around February is the planned release date for giving SVN to everyone. That's not too far away.

Anyone want to be a project admin and help set things up?

We could swap to another hoster later... if there are problems.
another thing we should definitly look at is the so called "trac system".
it's much better than the default sourceforge thing.

here you can see it in action:
trac.adiumx.com (adiumx is an osx instant messager probably all of you
know) ;-)

This is really cool, but I don't know if they offer svn to every
project yet or if it's still in trial. Just look out for it.

I'm signing up a project page on sourceforge now. Do you want to be
an admin on the project too? Sign up at http://sf.net and tell me
your username.

Excellent! I like it. Now how did I not think of that?

What about KisMac Reloaded? :-)

I was thinking we should go with sourceforge - that's where most
opensource projects go.
Does anyone else think we should/shouldn't?

If we do want to fork off KisMac, we sould change the project name I
guess.

KisMac seemed to be non open-source in the early days before SVN...

The SVN release seems to be named KisMacNG (NG standing for next
generation?)

How about calling the release "KisMacTG" as in third generation?

It seems like there are some people willing
to restart the development of kismac.

What about setting up a new SVN server + bugtracker etc?
this is a very nice system:
http://trac.edgewall.com/

the adiumx guys use it, too.
