sorry for the long response time, but i am very busy.
there have been a lot of questions for a kismac 1.0, but i currently
can not plan to release it. there are two main points of a stable
version, which kismac lacks: documentation and stability. it is not
that i do not care about them, however i can simply not provide them.
documentation: i really suck at writing documentations in either german
or english (not a question of the language, but of my stupidity). i had
a couple of guys, who wanted to write such a documentation, but for
various reasons it never came to it. if you or someone else wants to
write something (does not have to be much for the beginning), just let
me know. there is already a starting point at
<http://www.musox.com/macosx/kismac.html>, which we are allowed to use.
i think it would be the best, to start a couple of chapters, and
whoever wants to write one can do something creative.
stability: this is the biggest problem i guess. in germany macs are not
very common, in my area i am the only one interested in wifi with a
mac. i also do not have car to do a lot of testing with many networks.
often it seems also a problem of the macs configuration and cards. this
is nothing i can really test, since i "only" have access to about 5
different models. i only own a tibook 800 dvi, some problems seem to
occur only on very slow macs. i do not have a really good solution for
this yet. the crash reporter is a first step. i plan to create an aim
account for a "closer" way of communication to the end-user.
a lot of "bugs" are not really explainable, sometimes the airport
connection simply wants not to come back, i could never figure out why.
i guess it is just, that the airport driver has never been built to get
unloaded/loaded all the time...
however you should note: i can never provide a support like a company,
since i am working pretty much alone on kismac and i do this in my
sparetime...
if you have any notes please let me know....
mick
