[Kindersite Newsletter] Re: autism spectrum disorder/ inclusion

I teach in an early childhood special education classroom in Iowa. My program
is offered full time to children who are three years old or older. Some
children start out 1/2 time and then eventually come full time. I also have one
who goes half time to my classroom and then 1/2 time to a private preschool,
but he is not diagnosed with autism. I have had one who was diagnosed go 1/2
time to my program and have time to a transitional kindergarten. This year that
child was in my room only for discrete trials and during his para's breaks.
That child was integrated full time in to the regular ed Kindergarten and
transitional kindergarten. What is ABA?

I was wondering how many 'out there' have programs designed to
include children with autism within their pre-school/kindergarten programs. I
work in a public school and we have a program for our children with autism
which utilizes ABA techniques within the full day with the student attending
the preschool program and receiving one on one specialized programs the other
half of the day. I would be interested how others address this particular
special need.
