I teach a self contained, special education (learning disabled) kindergarten class and there are many students that come to me that are high functioning. My class is labeled as a transitional class so those students who are higher funtioning start with me and then get mainstreamed into the regular setting (typically with a 1:1 aide). However, those who are more severe go to our self contained autistic program where they receive very specialized services. It is like this at the preschool level as well. I work in a public school and we have a program for our children with autism which utilizes ABA techniques within the full day with the student attending the preschool program and receiving one on one specialized programs the other half of the day. I would be interested how others address this particular special need. Beverly in Massachusetts, USA
