At our school, we have a program called PPCD which is a program for pre-school age children who have disabilities. That class runs parallel with my Pre-Kindergarten class, yet they have teachers who are trained in special ed and have assistants who help in the classroom. I do not actually have any disabled kids on my roll. However, ABA has been the best program for my nephew who has both autism and Downs Syndrome. My sister actually has therapist who have trained in ABA fly in to work with him several times a year. Most public school do not seem to have the training in ABA that is necessary for success. Dr. Carbone (not sure of the spelling) has found something that works with my nephew. I work in a public school and we have a program for our children with autism which utilizes ABA techniques within the full day with the student attending the preschool program and receiving one on one specialized programs the other half of the day. I would be interested how others address this particular special need.
