If you are a subscriber to Makor Rishon, you are probably aware that about a
week ago the paper announced a price hike to NIS 68 per month (from about
NIS 53), if you want to keep receiving Makor Layeladim, etc. etc.  There has
been a big backlash by subscribers over this increase (and the paper's
attempt to sell us the idea that Makor Layeladim is "really a separate
magazine" that was "generously included" with the paper for the past
1.5years, but now is being marketed separately -- yada yada yada.

Anyway, I just called with customer service to complain, and told them "lo
yitahen!"

At first, I was offered a "special price" of NIS 59 per month ("only" a NIS
6 increase over what I currently pay).  When I told them that wouldn't be
acceptable (after another 10 minutes or so on the phone, listening to the
paper's "reasoning", but not budging), I was finally offered a "very special
deal, because you've been a subscriber of ours since 2004 and we want you to
become familiar with the new format ..." -- I accepted an offer of 3 months
for a total of  NIS 136 (NIS 68 x 2 months + 1 month free = about NIS
45.35per month net). During that time, we will continue to receive the
entire
Makor "package", including Makor Layeladim. Since that is actually LOWER
than what we are currently paying, I accepted.

Of course, immediately after ending the call I wrote myself a note to call
the paper back a couple of weeks before the 3 months are up to renegotiate,
otherwise the subscription will automatically continue to be NIS 68 per
month after that time.

So -- if you want to get in on the deal, call up Makor Rishon, voice your
protest over the proposed price hike, and stand firm!
