If the GPS requires a USB cable I have found that the one for my camera works, the exact same fittings and everything.

Subject: [kag] Thanks for all the replies on GPS models

Hello again,

Thanks for all the replies regarding GPS models.

What I found, in summary:

GPSMAP60Cx ($300) and ETREX LEGEND ($149) are both recommended.

The legend comes in a "tracker pack" kit with data cable, topo maps, and case for $199.

The base models are quite reasonable, but when features are added, like colour, memory and maps, the price goes up fast. Very fast.

So I keep coming back to the ETREX H for $99 as an entry level device.

The data cable for the etrex line, if purchased as a GARMIN product is crazy expensive, especially when coupled with a serial to USB adapter. However, knockoffs are available on ebay for about $20.

The data cable for higher models are ussually included in the box, and are very inexpensive, being actual USB cables.

And finally, those great turn by turn street map devices, like the NUVI, are not suitable for geocaching at all.

Thanks again for the replies and info, hope this summary is helpful.
