Hello, everyone,
I will start going through the Bylaws and suggesting changes that might make
them better or more usable. I will also mention where things are OK, as I
see it.
Article I mentions the name of the organization. I would not change that.
In Article II, I would make one change. In the sentence that says "This
includes economic, educational and employment opportunities, I would add the
word "recreational."
Article III: In 1.1.1 has "any deafblind person who lives in Kentuckuy and
pays his/her dues can be an active member." Do we want to add surrounding
states? I do not believe that Southern Indiana has a similar group. Should
people just across the river be allowed to become full members? I don't know
the answer to this one.
I would also add that people who reside outside of Kentuciky for educational
and training purposes but who maintain their Kentucky residency may maintain
their membership.
1.1.2 This is a change that I can probably make on my own because it doesn't
change anything. It says, "Active members can make motions..., but later it
says, "or can be an officer." It should say "can be officers."
1.1.2 Revised: Associate members cannot vote or be officers in KADB except
for the positions of Secretary and Treasurer. However, they may serve on,
and vote on committees.
Article III, Section 2: Add the words "sexual orientation."
Article IV1.1.2: Do we want to add "or surrounding states?"
1.2 Twelve-month membership is desirable for these positions, but if we get
in a position of not being able to find someone for either of them, could
this be a barrier. I propose that we put in the sentence at the end, "The
twelve-month membership provision may be waived by a 2/3 vote of the entire
board memeership."
2.1: The President of KADB will appoint the the Secretary and Treasurer. I
would add the words, "with advice and consent of the Board.
2.1 I see a mistake here. This was actually changed to two-year terms. I
think we should take the limits off of Secretary and Treasurer. The way
things work now, we elect officers in even-numbered years, and board members
in odd-numbered ones. Do we want term limits? We are small. There could also
be a provision that we keep them, but the Board could override this
provision by a 2/3 vote of the Board of those present and voting.
