Topic 1: Making Progress In Cargo Delivery
It's one of the highlights of any stay on the International Space
Station--the arrival of the Progress. The unmanned Russian craft keeps the
crew supplied with food, fuel, water, and more.
K-4

layers, and to graph where different aircraft, satellites, and spacecraft
operate in it.
Lesson 2 - Bring Me Something Good! To think about life on a Space Station,
and to write about items that would be missed from Earth.
5-8
Lesson 1 - Layers Of The Atmosphere: To use a KWL chart and a model of the
atmosphere to learn about the different atmospheric layers.
Lesson 2 - Scientific Shortcuts: To use scientific notation to write the
different wavelengths and frequencies of the waves of the electromagnetic
spectrum.
9-12
Lesson 1 - Integrating To Find The Station: To integrate a differential
equation to compute the exact location of the International Space Station
(ISS) for a Progress rendezvous.
Lesson 2 - Great Ranges Of Gamma Rays: To compare the sensitivity of
various gamma ray satellites.
Topic 2: Is Stress Making You Sick?
Research on how the stresses of spaceflight affect the immune system will
help scientists better prepare astronauts for their experiences, and could
have benefits on Earth, as well.
K-4
Lesson 1 - Tag, You're Sick! To understand how the immune system fights
germs.
Lesson 2 - Spreading Sparkly Germs: To understand how infectious diseases
are spread.
5-8
Lesson 1 - Who's Got The Flu? To determine when the flu is most prominent
in the United States.
Lesson 2 - Please Pass The Disease: To simulate how infectious diseases are
spread.
9-12
Lesson 1 - Stress Can Have Calculus: To determine the slope of the line
that defines the balance between stress and performance.
Lesson 2 - Lytic And Lysogenic Cycles: To make a visual representation of
