* District Sues Over NCLB Requirements
The Reading (Pennsylvania) School District is the first in the U.S. to sue a
state education department over No Child Left Behind requirements. Reading
officials claim they face unfair sanctions under the federal law.

* West, Midwest, Have Most H.S. Graduates
Rural Western and Midwestern U.S. states have the highest percentages of
residents with high school diplomas. Wyoming is tops with 90.2 percent of its
residents 25 and older having graduated from high school.

* IQs Are Better College Selectors
Research recently released in Great Britain indicated that IQ-type tests could
be better predictors of how students will perform in college than national
exams. Using the IQ-style tests could help more working-class students earn
acceptance to college, researchers said.

A new master's degree program for high school teachers at Bard College in New

Almost 18 months after the state of Maine opted to give laptops to all seventh
and eighth grade students and teachers, educators and parents report gains in
achievement and new attitudes towards teaching and learning.

As Florida prepares to launch a universal pre-kindergarten program in summer
