* Helping With Handwriting
Children in the Colonial (Delaware) School District are having fun while
learning to write with the Handwriting Without Tears program. Students write
letters on slates with wet sponges and use wooden shapes to learn to form
letters.

Despite having the smallest enrollment of any school in Tennessee (37 students
in K-8), Maple Grove School students publish an eight-page,

* This is not Your Mother's Study Hall
High schools in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, are dumping or reinventing their study
halls so that students will use free periods more productively. Some schools
use
the time for specialized tutoring, while others allow students to work on
extracurricular activities.

An 11-year-old Syosset, New York, student was suspended for six weeks from H.
B.
Thompson Middle School for writing a novel for English class based on the
Halloween horror movies. The boy's parents have asked the commissioner of
education to review the case.
