While I do not know if Dick Meyer's plane was equipped with WAAS enabled nav
system approved for LPV, we should all be aware that JYO does have a RNAV
approach with minimum of 300-1 (LPV). Having used that approach a few times
since it was approved, I can say that it provides much needed access in poor
weather. While an ILS would be nice, FAA has been responsive to the need for
a
precision approach. According to the weather you provide the airport would
have been at minimums at the time of the crash.
We will all miss the Meyers and hope that coverage, as there was in the Post
today, doesn't result in more pressure on the airport.
