May 27, 2004 -- Council member Bob Zoldos appointed two familiar figures to
town commissions Tuesday night.
Kevin Wright, a Pershing Avenue resident who attends most council meetings,
was named to finish the term of Planning Commissioner David Kennedy. Kennedy
died of a heart attack while campaigning for Zoldos last month. Wright, who
also helped Zoldos in his failed campaign for mayor, is the son of former
Leesburg mayor B.J. Webb.
Zoldos’ appointment to the Airport Commission was a bit more complicated. The
term of Stanley Caulkins, the longest serving member of the panel, was set
to end June 30. Rather than lose Caulkins’ expertise, Zoldos asked his
previous appointee, David Burton, to resign from the panel. Zoldos then
proposed to
appoint Caulkins to serve the remaining two years of that term. Caulkins was
recognized for his long service to the airport earlier this month when the
new terminal building was named in his honor.
