Wireless Internet@JYO Survey - Response required if you want to use the service...

Well, we might be a step closer to having wireless Internet access (also known as 802.11b WiFi) in the Leesburg Executive Airport Terminal.

This service will be provided by the WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider) to both based and transient pilots. This way pilots can use their own laptop computers to check e-mail, do online flight planning, get weather forecasts, updates and radar images, check NOTAMS, file flight plans, update GPS databases, etc. All the access details are still being worked out but the plan is to provide this service to pilots, student pilots and transient pilots free of charge. Commercial Operators at the airport (such as Flight Schools, offices, FBO's) will be able to take advantage of having a broadband wireless connection available at the airport (around 1-2MB connection) at competitive broadband rates.

The WISP and I met with the Town Information Technology committee last night and they were very excited about the plan.

I have been charged with finding out how many users at the airport will actually use the service if it was to be provided at/near the airport terminal. The service is not planned to cover the hangar areas.

If you plan on using the service, please respond with the following information by Wednesday, March 12th:
