New Light Sport and Hundreds More Aircraft
To Attend the Virginia Regional EAA Fly-In
Light Sport aircraft manufacturers will be new at the 9th Annual
Virginia Regional EAA Fly-In scheduled for October 1-2 at the
Dinwiddie County Airport (PTB). Weather cooperating, the
Regional Fly-In should break a 630 plane record. As of mid-September
eight manufacturers and distributors of Light Sport Aircraft and
twelve other aircraft manufacturers are signed up as vendors.
A total of 70 vendors are registered.
In addition to seeing this new category of Light Sport Aircraft,
you will be able to attend 21 forums covering the new Sport
Pilot certificate and other subjects. You can quickly identify
the location of the three Forum tents by looking for
ORANGE balloons flying above them.
Be sure to bring your Virginia Aviation Ambassador passport
(http://www.doav.virginia.gov/Ambassadors.htm) with you and
get it stamped at one of the Aircraft Registration tents.
If you fly in, please, please register your aircraft at one of the
Aircraft Registration RED tents marked with red balloons.
If you drive in, fill out our registration form at the front gate and
then proceed to the Admissions. In either case, registering will
enter you in drawings for multiple aviation related prizes. The
list can be viewed on the www.vaeaa.org.
At Aircraft Registration or the Admissions Gate, be sure you
pick up your complimentary bag. When you register you also
get a patch, program and other goodies. While you are there,
also pick up a Prop Card if you want your aircraft judged. Or,
pick up a different Prop Card if you want fuel.
At 1 p.m. on both days, a two-hour crowd pleasing Air Show
will begin. During this time the field will be closed by NOTAM
allowing you to enjoy Charlie Kulp and his Flying Farmer act,
Ron Saglimbene flying his fire engine red Siai Marchetti, Charlie
Schwenker performing classic aerobatics in his Extra 300, Bill
Finigan wringing out his S2C Pitts biplane and appreciate the
aerial tricks of the Hanover Radio Control Group. Saturday or
Sunday, come early to enjoy a classic Pancake Breakfast in
the main hangar which will be served 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.. Later in
the day other vendors will be offering a wide variety of food.
When flying in, check the suggested approach procedures for
both Ultralights and Standard Aircraft detailed with text and
graphics on the Fly-In web site: www.vaeaa.org. Monitor both
AWOS and Unicom frequencies as you fly the approach. After
landing roll out to the far end of the runway as shown clearly with
photographs of the airport on our web site. Follow the directions
of the Linemen to either Show Plane Parking on the ramp
(until filled) or General Aviation Parking in the grass areas.
Displaying a sign, SPP or GAP in your windshield will make
it easier for the Linemen to determine your destination.
Due to new parking areas, if you want fuel, please display a
GAS sign or indicate "yes" when taxiing by the signs along
the parallel taxiway that say "GAS?". The Lineman will then
direct you to a special parking area where a fuel truck is located.
Volunteer to help by using the Volunteer Form on our web site.
You can pick the time and area which interests you. Just click
on Volunteers on the main web page. Dedicate a minimum of
four hours and you get a free pass to the Volunteer Dinner
Saturday evening as well as lunch each day. You'll be glad you did!
