Third Plane Violates No-Fly Zone

POSTED: 10:19 am EDT May 27, 2005
HARFORD COUNTY, Md. -- There's been another violation of the no-fly zone in
the D.C.-Baltimore area.

Authorities said the plane was flying from Norfolk when it skirted the outer
edge of restricted airspace near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge called the Air
Defense Identification Zone.
Authorities said the zone encompasses 30 miles around Baltimore-Washington
International Airport, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Dulles
International Airport.
Authorities said they believe the pilot meant to fly around the zone but
skirted the outer perimeter.
The pilot landed in Harford County, Md., late Thursday night and was met by
Maryland State Police and the Secret Service.
Federal authorities said the pilot was questioned and released.
This is the third time in less than a month that a pilot has flown into
restricted airspace in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area.
