AOPA PRESIDENT TO PILOTS: REMAIN CLEAR OF ADIZ DURING STATE OF UNION
AOPA President Phil Boyer urges pilots flying around the Washington,
D.C., area to exercise extreme caution on Tuesday, January 23, during
President Bush's State of the Union address. This has been declared a
national security event, prohibiting general aviation flight within
the Washington, D.C., Air Defense Identification Zone from 8 p.m.
local until 11 p.m. local.
"We don't want GA making headline news after the president's address,"
Boyer said. "It is up to each of us as pilots to be responsible, check
notams, and stay clear of the Washington, D.C., ADIZ."
Because TFR airspace frequently changes, AOPA strongly encourages
pilots to obtain a briefing and CHECK NOTAMS before every flight.
TFR violators will be intercepted and forced to land.
